Siobhan Kennedy Volunteers with Save the Children in Bolivia

ONEONTA, NY (05/26/2016)-- Siobhan Kennedy of Clifton Park, NY, is spending part of the summer volunteering in Bolivian schools through a unique faculty-led field course in collaboration with Save the Children International.

Twenty-two SUNY Oneonta students arrived in Bolivia on May 17 and will spend two weeks immersing themselves in Bolivian culture and doing service-learning projects in elementary schools, high schools and in the Save the Children offices. They are accompanied by Brett Heindl, associate professor of political science, and Alejandra Escudero, lecturer in Spanish.

Local Student Elected to Phi Beta Kappa at Hamilton College

Clinton, N.Y. — Rachel V. Beamish, daughter of James and Teresa Beamish of Melrose, was recently elected to the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Hamilton College.Phi Beta Kappa, which established a chapter at Hamilton in 1870, is the oldest and most prestigious honor society in the country.  Students are elected to membership in recognition of their exceptional academic achievement in fulfilling the goals and purposes of the college.Beamish, a senior majoring in classical studies and English, is a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central School.

Katelyn E. DiBenedetto Receives 2015 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award

BATON ROUGE, LA (06/09/2015)(readMedia)-- Katelyn E. DiBenedetto of Clifton Park, N.Y., recently was awarded a Love of Learning award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi--the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. DiBenedetto is one of 80 recipients nationwide to receive the award.

DiBenedetto, a Ph.D. student in anthropology at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, plans to use funds from the award to alleviate travel costs to Cornell University to utilize their stable isotope laboratories.

Clifton Park Resident Rachel Harrison Returns from Zurich Following Intensive Research Project

Loryn Atkinson Graduates from Lyndon State College

LYNDONVILLE, VT (05/18/2015)(readMedia)-- Lyndon State College held its 103rd Commencement ceremony on May 17, 2015. More than 270 graduates and their families packed the tent on the Lyndon soccer pitch. Robert Shetterly gave the commencement address; Mason Brewer '15 was the student speaker.

Lyndon State President Joe Bertolino exhorted the crowd to "exercise an ethic of care." Bonnie Hiladis '15 won the Alumni Council Award for Outstanding Senior. The processional and recessional were led by Ian McDonald '14 and the Catamount Pipe Band.
