BATON ROUGE, LA (05/13/2016)-- Carolyn Valada of Clifton Park, N.Y., was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Valada is pursuing a degree in History at State University of New York College at Plattsburg.

Owen Jarem Earns Masters Degree at Merrimack College

NORTH ANDOVER, MA (05/13/2016)-- Merrimack College will celebrate the achievements of more than 260 students who will receive their masters degree at the Graduate Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Merrimack Athletics Complex on the North Andover campus.

Clifton Park's Samantha Buntich graduates from Emerson College in Boston

BOSTON, MA (05/13/2016)-- On Sunday, May 8, Samantha Buntich of Clifton Park, NY graduated from Emerson College. Buntich earned a BA in Theatre Studies: Acting.

At Emerson's 136th Commencement ceremony, approximately 970 bachelor's degrees were conferred during the undergraduate exercises and more than 350 master's degrees were conferred during the graduate exercises.

Halfmoon's Sarah Gariepy Named to Emerson College's Dean's List for spring 2016

BOSTON, MA (05/13/2016)-- Sarah Gariepy of Halfmoon, NY was named to Emerson College's Dean's List for the spring 2016 semester. Gariepy is majoring in Design/Technology. The requirement to make Emerson's Dean's List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

180 Students Present Research and Creative Projects

ONEONTA, NY (05/05/2016)-- Nearly 200 SUNY Oneonta students presented original research and creative projects at the college's 2016 Student Research and Creative Activity Day on April 20.

Created to recognize and promote undergraduate scholarship and creative activity, Student Research & Creative Activity Day has become the premier on-campus event for scholarly student exhibition. A total of 180 students, supported by 66 faculty sponsors, participated in this year's event, which featured presentations on a wide variety of topics across academic disciplines.

The following area students were among the presenters:

Joshua Louden, a senior from Clifton Park, NY; Louden worked with Joshua Nollenberg of the Physics and Astronomy Department on a project titled "Searching the Outer Solar System for Trans-Neptunian Objects."

Alyssa Moran, a sophomore from Clifton Park, NY; Moran worked with Jonathan Brown of the Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics Department on a project titled "Mathematical Discovery in Elementary Classrooms."

Rachael Shine honored by SUNY Oneonta Athletics Department

ONEONTA, NY (05/06/2016)-- The SUNY Oneonta athletics department held its 27th annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 3 and honored 14 student athletes as major award recipients.

Rachael Shine of Clifton Park, NY was one of the major award winners for the 2015-16 year.

Shine was the recipient of the Lee Abbott Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. Shine is majoring in Psychology and has earned numerous accolades for her performance in the classroom and on the track. Shine was an All-Conference and All-Region runner during this past cross country season and was named a USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete. She has also been inducted into both Chi Alpha Sigma and Psi Chi Honor Societies. Including last spring, she is a five-time SUNYAC champion while earning the Most Outstanding Track Athlete for both the 2015 outdoor and 2016 indoor championships. She is the current SUNYAC record holder in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter run and outdoor 1500-meter run.

Margaret Sanderson Recognized for Leadership at SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY (05/09/2016)-- Margaret Sanderson of Schaghticoke, NY, has completed Gold Level requirements in the SUNY Oneonta's Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program.

Aaron Kalish Earns League Award

TROY, NY (05/09/2016)-- The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners from baseball and Rensselaer Polytechnic Student (RPI) student-athlete Aaron Kalish of Clifton Park was among the award winners.

A sophomore, Kalish delivered 7.0 innings of three-hit pitching, in Game 2 against the Saints on Sunday, leading the Engineers to a 7-0 victory in a must-win game. He struck out seven without a walk, helping RPI clinch the fourth and final Liberty League Tournament spot. SLU batters hit just .120 off of him in the contest. Kalish has appeared in 11 games this season (all starts), going 2-5 with a 5.60 earned run average. Recording two combined shutouts, the former Shenendehowa High School standout has allowed 69 hits in 54.1 innings, with 43 strikeouts and 16 walks. The opposition is hitting .308 off the righthander. In 21 career games at RPI (16 starts), Kalish is 5-7 with a 5.58 ERA in 98.1 innings. He has two complete games and has surrendered 124 hits with 62 strikeouts and a .309 opponent batting average.

 

Sean Kennedy candidate for degree from Emporia State University

Five Students Named as Recipients of SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

TROY, NY (04/05/2016)-- Five Hudson Valley Community College students were recently recognized with one of the highest honors bestowed on a student in the State University of New York system.

Local recipients of the prestigious honor included:

Taylar Delisle of Mechanicville. Delisle, who is studying in the Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities and Social Science program, is president and captain of the Cheerleading and Pep Squad Club and has actively worked to promote student involvement in campus events. She has twice been named to the President's List, which notes students who have a term grade point average above 3.5. Outside of campus, she is an assistant coach for Watervliet Pop Warner and has volunteered for several charities, including Avery's Angels, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a sexual violence awareness campaign.
