Jennifer Lachell of Waterford, NY, Earns Nazareth College's Athlete of the Week Honor

ROCHESTER, NY (09/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Jennifer Lachell of Waterford, NY, earns Nazareth College's athlete of the week honor for the week ending September 22, 2014. Lachell, member of the women's golf team, finished fourth individually at the William Smith Invitational over the weekend as she posted rounds of 84 and 92 for a 176 total. Her 84 on Sunday was the second-lowest round in the field of 37 golfers.

Lachell is a senior marketing major at Nazareth and is competing in her fourth season as a Golden Flyer. Her honors include second-team all-conference honors in the Empire 8 Conference all four years as well as individual medalist at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational in 2014.

More than 500 Transfer Students Enroll at SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY (08/21/2014)(readMedia)-- Approximately 560 new transfer students will continue their studies at SUNY Oneonta this fall. Classes start on Monday, Aug. 25. The SUNY Oneonta fall 2014 transfer class has an average cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.

IRVING, TX (08/27/2014)(readMedia)-- Monica Marra, a Theology major from Clifton Park, NY, has been named to the University of Dallas Dean's List for the Spring 2014 semester for earning a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

1,100 Freshmen Enroll at SUNY Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY (08/21/2014)(readMedia)-- Approximately 1,100 new freshmen, selected from 11,589 applicants, will begin their studies at SUNY Oneonta this fall. Classes start on Monday, Aug. 25. The SUNY Oneonta Class of 2018 has an average high school grade-point average of 91 and an average combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1127.

Town to Catch Up on Ambulance Costs – by H. Wessell

TOWN OF STILLWATER, June 18 Supervisor Edward Kinowski on Thursday called the merging of the Stillwater and Malta ambulance/ rescue squads "a very seamless transition, and I really appreciate that. I don't think most people even notice the difference, except they see the word ëMalta' now added to ‘Stillwater,' but that's okay."
But not all that unexpected -- as the late Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story" is one of some seams straining.
The Town Board heard the rest from representatives of the Malta Ambulance Service and rescue squad.

Village and Town Settle GE $ – by H. Wessell

Stillwaters, June 18
After several months of negotiation, the Town and Village of Stillwater have arrived at an acceptable proposal for the division and distribution of the net proceeds of the GE litigation settlement which the Village won earlier this year.
The Village and Town Boards, in identical resolutions at their monthly meetings of June 16 and 18 respectively, have agreed $86,000 is to be paid to the Town; and the balance of $4,368,469, to the Village.

Tickets on sale now for Friends of the Stillwater Free Library Ladies Night Raffle – by J Dugan

The ever popular Ladies Night at the Stillwater Free Library is fast approaching and this year the Friends of the Library are putting a new spin on things. The event, which sees a large turn-out each year, is typically first come first served when it comes to seating. However, this year the Friends of the Stillwater Free Library are offering up a chance to win a much coveted front row table thanks to their V.I.P. Pass raffle.

John L. Whitman, Jr.

 

John Leroy "Roy" Whitman, Jr., of Zephyr lane passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at his residence. He was 68.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Peter's Church, 895 Hudson Avenue, Stillwater. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10-11:00am prior to Mass. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Stillwater.
