Raymond L. “Bomba” Parkis – 55

CLIFTON PARK – Raymond L. “Bomba” Parkis, 55, of D & R Village, died suddenly, Tuesday, March 5th, at Ellis Hospital, after being stricken at home.

Born in Schenectady, March 20, 1957, son of the late Billy and Mabelle Baird Parkis.  Bomba grew up and was educated in Schenectady.  He was a janitor for New Visions in Albany for many years.

Barbara Mazza Karwowski – 69

CLIFTON PARK – Barbara Mazza Karwowski, 69, of LaCosta Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 27th at home, after a long battle with ALS.

karwowski,barb0001Born in Northampton, NH, August 15, 1943, she was daughter of the late Jerry and Helen Mazza. Barb was a graduate of St. Michael’s Academy and Northampton Comm. College both ofNorthampton.

Joseph Siracusano Downs – 86

MECHANICVILLE – Joseph Siracusano Downs, 86 of Davenport Estates, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 26th at Saratoga Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Jamaica, NY, Oct. 18, 1926, Joe served in the US Army’s 458th Quartermaster Corps in the South Pacific during WWII.  A self-employed house painting contractor his whole life, Joe was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Malta.

Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to all his family.

Carmella Palmer Scarati – 93

MECHANICVILLE – Carmella Palmer Scarati, 93, of No. Main St., died Tuesday evening at Evergreen Commons, East Greenbush, after a brief illness.  A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, she was born April 23, 1919, daughter of the late Stanislaw and Marianne Enzogna Palmer.

A homemaker most of her life, she was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting, and had a knack for word search puzzles.  A member of the Mechanicville Area Senior Citizens, she was also a lifelong member of the Assumption-St. Paul Parish and the church’s Rosary Alter Society.

Mrs. Olive Wood Conerty – 96

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Olive Wood Conerty, 96, of Valley View Drive, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, after a short illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born April 25, 1916, daughter of the late Arthur and Adabelle Wood, she was a 1933 graduate of Mechanicville High School.

Olive was a member of the Eastern Star, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the church’s St. Martha’s Guild.

Frank S. Pozniakas – 80

MECHANICVILLE – Frank S. Pozniakas, 80, of Washington Ave., died Friday evening, Feb. 15th, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy, after a brief illness.

Born in Riverside, Town of Stillwater (Frog Island), March 31, 1932, he was son of the late William and Eva Swelko Pozniakas, and was a 1949 graduate of Mechanicville High School.

Frank enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and later enlisted in the US Air Force, serving as a materials handler being discharged in 1958. Frank was proud to be from a family that served their country, with his father serving in WWI, late brothers served in WWII and both Frank and his brother John serving during the Korean War.

George H. Poitras, Sr. – 72

STILLWATER – George H. Poitras, Sr., 72. of Claremont Road, died Thursday at St. Mary’s Hospital, Troy, with his loving family at his side.  Born in Mechanicville, July, 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph “Harry” and Josephine Simpson Poitras, Jr. and husband of 34 years of the late Linda L. Barbolt Poitras, who died in 1999. 

A 1959 graduate of Stillwater High School, he worked for Tagsons Paper Co. in Mechanicville, as a pipe fitter and other various positions, for 32 years.  He then continued and ended his career with GE Silicone, Waterford, as a silicone operator, for over 10 years before retiring.
