Mrs. Libby M. D’Amico – 96

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Libby M. D’Amico, 96, of Saratoga Ave., died Monday evening, April 8th at Samaritan Hospital,Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Italy May 5, 1916, daughter of the late Pio and Assunta Pasqulalitto, she and family immigrated to this city at a young age.

A homemaker who years ago was a seamstress for the former Korell Dress Co. of Mechanicville, Libby was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Mechanicville Area Senior Citizens and a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church.

Sally DePaul Durfee – 86

MECHANICVILLE – Sally DePaul Durfee, 86, former longtime resident of Mechanicville and later Halfmoon, NY, died peacefully Friday, February 1st in Palm Harbor, Florida, in the company of her sister and family.

Born in Mechanicville, October 30, 1926 she was the daughter of the late John and Antoinette Peluso DePaul, Sr., and attended local schools.  She was a presser with the former Korell Dress Co. in Mechanicville for some time.

Mrs. Theresa DeFelice Sabation – 81

STILLWATER – Mrs. Theresa DeFelice Sabatino, 81, of Colonial Road, died Saturday morning, April 6th, at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Troy, March 23, 1932, daughter of the late John and Frances DeFelice, Theresa grew up and was educated in Mechanicville.

A presser for the former Korell Dress Co. for 25 years, until the dress shop closed.  She later worked at the former Korell Outlet at the Cloverleaf Plaza for a number of years.

Walter Julius Joba – 99

Walter Julius Joba, 99, a long time Stillwater resident passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on January 30, 2013.

Born in Passaic, NJ on July 20, 1913 to Anthony and Sophia Czymonkiewitz - Dziuba, he spent his early years in Clifton.

As a young man he joined the Merchant Marines and first worked on cruise ships and later on troop ships throughout World War II.  After the war he moved to Stillwater where he owned and operated a dairy farm for several years.

ALBANY – Susan V. Wiley, 49, of Livingston Ave, and former resident of Mechanicville, died Monday, Apr. 1st at AlbanyMedical Center, after a being stricken.

Born in Saratoga Springs, July 16, 1963, she was the daughter of Richard Wiley of Mechanicville and the late Shirley Wiley, and sister of the late Bruce Wiley.

Leona McBride Serbalik – 87

MECHANICVILLE – Leona McBride Serbalik, 87, of West St., Riverside, died Easter Sunday evening, March 31st., at Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital,Albany.  A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born October 20, 1925, daughter of the late William and Clara Wojtowicz McBride. She was a member of the Class of 1942 of Mechanicville High School.  During her teen years, Leona joined the family farm where she worked, but was most proud of the care she provided to her siblings.

In 1946 she married John Serbalik, who had returned from the Italian battlefields of WWII. Early in life she worked at the former Central Market in Troy.

While raising her own family, she and her husband, with partners Dominick Funaro and Val Serbalik, ran the former Riverside Grocery, the former Mechanicville Bus Terminal, Val’s News Room, and the Coffee Shop.

Miss Margaret A. DeVito – 91

MECHANICVILLE – Miss Margaret A. DeVito, 91, of Mabbett St., died Easter Sunday, March 31st, at Maplewood Manor, Ballston Spa, after an extended illness.  A native and lifelong resident of Mechanicville, born Dec. 3, 1921, daughter of the late Peter and Lesena DeVito, Margaret was also predeceased by her sisters Mary Hmura and Rose DeVito and brothers Thomas and John “Coomba” DeVito.

Margaret was a seamstress for the Marshall Ray Co. in Troy, for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

Richard R. Butler – 70

STILLWATER – Richard R. Butler, 70, of Sawmill Hill, passed Monday, March 25th, at Saratoga Hospital, after a two year battle with melanoma.
Born in Troy, Oct. 4, 1942, son of the late the Richard and Leona Best Butler and brother of the late Gail Morris.  Dick was a 1960 graduate of Stillwater Central School and a high honor graduate of University of Florida atGainesville, with a degree in architectural design.
