Margaret Rickard – 59

MECHANICVILLE – Margaret Rickard, 59, of Riverside, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, Sept. 17th at Saratoga Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Margaret DeRusso and William Shevlin and the wife of Don Rickard.

She is survived in addition to her husband by her four children: Damien, Brandi, Robert and Stephanie Rickard all of Mechanicville. Also her sisters Ann Brunelle, Mary Andrews and Helen Mikol and her brother William Shevlin, nieces and nephews.

Anne Nisler – 93

Saratoga Springs, NY - Anne Nisler passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was 93.

Born on March 3, 1920 in Mechanicville, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Ambersine) Clements. Anne was a lifelong resident and worked at Skidmore College for many years. She was involved in several organizations which included the Catholic Daughters of America, Principessa Elena Women's Society serving as a past vice president at one time, ITAM Post #35 Ladies Auxiliary serving as past national president, past state president and past auxiliary president.

In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her first husband Carl Martino and second husband Nicholas Nisler; sisters Lena Barber, Carmella Villa and brother Peter Clements, Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosemary (Sean) O'Connor of Bayside, NY and Carol (Thomas) Berrigan of Schuylerville; grandchildren, Sean (Claudia) O'Connor, Jr. of New Hyde Park, NY, Colleen (John) Costa of Flushing, NY, Brian (Jillian) O'Connor of Roslyn, NY, Thomas (Jennifer) Berrigan IV of Schuylerville and Audra (Jamie) Miller of Wilton; great-grandchildren Matthew, Caitlin, Christopher, Patrick and Timothy O'Connor, Jonathan, Michael, Jesse and Gabriella Costa, Matthew and Taylor Berrigan; Sera and Sophia Miller; her sisters, Philomena DiBello and Catherine Lynch both of Mechanicville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call from 4pm to 8pm Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrat at 10:30am Saturday., Sept. 14, 2013 at the Church of St. Peter. 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Neil Draves-Arpaia.  Burial will be in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.

Mrs. Martha Stalter – 92

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Martha Stalter, 92, of Hulin St., died Monday, Sept 9th at CapstoneCare Center, Amsterdam, after an extended illness.

Born in Riverside, June 24, 1921, daughter of the late William and Anelia Lefko, she was the widow of Calvin Stalter who died in 1976.

A homemaker, Martha enjoyed arts and crafts, line dancing and was a great cook and baker, especially her homemade pies.

A proud member of the Henry F. Lefko American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Riverside, she was also a communicant of Assumption-St. Paul Church.

Survivors include her two sons Calvin and wife Linda Stalter of Schenectady and David and Karen Stalter of Saratoga Springs, grandchildren: Jennifer Stalter of Saratoga Springs and Daniel Stalter of Brooklyn along with sister-in-law Frances Lefko of Riverside, and nieces, nephews and their families..

Also predeceased by siblings Henry F., Vincent, Sigmond, Edward and Peter Lefko, Edith Chant, Helen Ames, Mary Stankowski and Jenny Lefko.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at Noon at All Saints on the Hudson South Church, 121 No. Main St., Mechanicville, with burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main ST., Mechanicville on Thursday from 4-7 PM.

Joseph J. Whitlock – 90

MECHANICVILLE – Joseph J. Whitlock, 90, former longtime resident of the Mechanicville area, and resident of Bradenton, Fla, died Friday, Sept. 6th, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady,  after a brief illness.

Born in Stillwater, son of the late Bruce and Kathryn Fehily Whitlock, he was a 1940 graduate ofMechanicville High School, where while on the track team, set the 100 yard dash record, and was the running quarterback on the football team.  After graduation, he served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater, during WWII.

An electrician, retired after many years as the head of the Capital District region’s New York State Board of Fire Underwriters.

He was predeceased by his wife Teresa Mohan Whitlock, and his siblings William Whitlock and Virginia Nolan.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Whitlock’s request, there will be no calling hours and a graveside ceremony will be limited to family members.

Robert J. Taylor, Sr. – 68

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Robert J. Taylor, Sr., 68, of Myrtle Beach and
formerly of Ballston Spa, NY died Wednesday, August 14th, in 
Myrtle
Beach, from complications after heart surgery.
Born in Troy, NY May 2, 1945, son of the late John and Ann LaPietro
Taylor, he was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, and served in
the US Army during the Vietnam War. Bob was a machinist at the
Watervliet Arsenal and later was self-employed as a general
contractor. For several years Bob and his wife operated the clubhouse
restaurant at Mechanicville Golf Club.
Bob lived to golf and took great pleasure in arranging early tee times
for his foursome. A diehard NY Giant fan and avid NY Yankee fan, he
collected memorabilia for both teams. He was a people person who loved
hosting parties for family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carla Catman Taylor, daughter Tina, son
Robert, Jr., step children Trista (Gary) Haydon and David Rockwell,
grandchildren Karissa (Church) Heran, Zachary and Austin Church, sister
Donna (David) Turco, aunts Theresa and Gail Downing, uncle Richard
Hawthorne, along with a niece, a nephew and several cousins.
A gathering of friends will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19th from 5-7 PM
at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville.
A Memorial service will follow at 7 PM at the Funeral Home.
Burial with military honors will be Friday at 10 AM at the 
Saratoga
National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
Remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice in fond memory of
Robert J. Taylor.

Mrs. Mary R. James – 88

MECHANICVILLE – Mrs. Mary R. James, 88, of Hemstreet Park, beloved and cherished Mom and Babu, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd at Ellis Hospital, in the loving company of her daughters.

Born in Troy, March 12, 1925, she was the widow of Howard C. James, who she had been married to for 52 years, at the time of his death in 2002. They were each others favorite polka partners and they are now dancing together once again.

Survivors include her two daughters: Lynne and husband Doug Roberts of Albany and Tenley Schaperjahn of Fulton, NY, two adored grandchildren: Kelley Schaperjahn of Oregon and Douglas James Roberts of Albany.  Also step-daughters Kristy Roberts McCauslin and family and Michelle Roberts St. Jock and family, also two sisters and a brother.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial in the Saratoga National Cemetery.

Josephine “Josie” (Messcore) Rose – 95

MECHANICVILLE - Josephine “Josie” (Messore) Rose, age 95, died peacefully on August 27, 2013 at Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, FL.  She resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Louis Sisto prior to her illness.  Before moving to Florida several years ago, she was a life long resident ofMechanicville, NY.  She was born on April 28, 1918, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Allesandra Romanelli Messore.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas A. Rose who passed away May 31, 2000.  They were married 60 years.  She worked at the Stillwater Knitting Mill until her retirement in 1966. 

 She is survived by her loving children, Lawrence (Ann Marie) Rose of Saratoga Springs, NY and The Villages, FL; Ronald (Helen) Rose of Mechanicville, NY, Lynne (Louis) Sisto, The Villages, FL, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren,  brother  Thomas (Frances) Messore, Stillwater, NY.  She was also predeceased by her brothers, Dominick and Michael Messore and sister Mary Messore.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing cards and games at the Recreation Centers in The Villages.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162. A private service will be held in Mechanicville at the convenience of the family.

Grace M. Dickinson – 80

Ocala, Florida - Marion County

Grace M. Dickinson, formerly of Schaghticoke, passed away on August 31, 2013 at her residence in Florida. She was 80.

Born on April 6, 1933 in Troy, she was a daughter of the late George and Inez (Hunt) Dickinson. She is the widow of the late Frederick Dickinson whom passed in 1996.

Survivors include her children, Rick Dickinson of Melrose, Robin Bonvicin of Castro Valley, CA and Darcy (Christopher) Connolly of Schaghticoke, as well as her sister Marjorie Grinko of Clifton Park, and her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Grace is predeceased by her brothers, Stanley Yager and Mike Yager and her daughter in law Susan Dickinson.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of her family. Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke.
