MECHANICVILLE – Garrett J. Geurtze, III, 82 of Saratoga Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 30th at Saratoga Hospital, following an extended illness.

A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5th at 5 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours at the Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-5 PM.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, NY, NY 10001, in memory of Garrett J. Geurtze, III.

MECHANICVILLE – Jacqueline M. Ronda, 56, of No Main St., died suddenly Monday, Sept 29th, at home, as a result of a fall in her residence.

Mechanicville Red Raiders Take Back Indian Bowl

MECHANICVILLE SEPTEMBER 26- The Red Raiders took back the Indian Bowl with a convincing 46-6 victory over Stillwater.Chris DeLossantos scored 6 touchdowns for Mechanicville on runs of 2, 49, 81,28,56, and 3 yards. He rushed for a total of 328 yards on just 21 carries. In the first half alone he rushed for 290 yards and scored 5 of his touchdowns. DeLossantos gained 219 yards on his 6 touchdown runs alone. Chris averaged 15.6 yards per carry in the game. In only 4 games he has already rushed for 1,075 yards, best in Section II.

Bother President Roosevelts Visit Mechanicville – by P. Loatman

The recent PBS series on the Roosevelt family that produced two New York Governors who later became President reminds us that both TR and FDR visited Mechanicville during their public lives. Fresh from his triumphs in Cuba, Teddy Roosevelt, despite being widely acclaimed while campaigning for Governor, left Editor Farrington Mead of The Saturday Mercury clearly unimpressed when he visited Mechanicville in 1898. An outspoken Democrat, Mead dismissed TR’s appeal to local voters by editorializing on October 22: “The Rough Rider left a poor impression in Mechanicville. The consuming vanity of the man drives away support.” Mead’s lack of enthusiasm, however, did little to stop TR from being swept into office by a political landslide.

Tonko & Marchione to Speak at Economic Summit

MECHANICVILLE- the Mechanicville Stillwater Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the annual Economic Summit on the evening of October 16th. This will be held at the Mechanicville Stillwater Elks on Park Avenue in Mechanicville. The Summit will start at 5:30 P.M.

Local residents and businesses will have the opportunity to get updates on the economic growth in the area. This includes information on sectors with anticipated job growth.

Mechanicville’s Finances Vastly Improved – by T. Mahoney

MECHANICVILLE- City Finance Commissioner Jodie Gilhean released the Treasurer's Report for August 2014. Currently the city has $888,691 cash in hand. The balance at the end of August 2013 was $80,372. Based on those figures the State had declared Mechanicville to be one of the most fiscally stressed communities in New York State.

Jennifer Lachell of Waterford, NY, Earns Nazareth College's Athlete of the Week Honor

ROCHESTER, NY (09/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Jennifer Lachell of Waterford, NY, earns Nazareth College's athlete of the week honor for the week ending September 22, 2014. Lachell, member of the women's golf team, finished fourth individually at the William Smith Invitational over the weekend as she posted rounds of 84 and 92 for a 176 total. Her 84 on Sunday was the second-lowest round in the field of 37 golfers.

Lachell is a senior marketing major at Nazareth and is competing in her fourth season as a Golden Flyer. Her honors include second-team all-conference honors in the Empire 8 Conference all four years as well as individual medalist at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational in 2014.
