Mrs. Pearl R. Isles – 84

STILLWATER – Mrs. Pearl R. Isles, 84, of Fitch Road, died Friday, Oct. 31st, at St. Peter’s Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in Stillwater, Dec. 6, 1929, daughter of the late Leighton and Mae Crandall Fitch, Pearl had owned and operated I.P.S. Services, a marketing agency that serviced General Electric’s Silicone Prod. Div. in Waterford for a number of years, retiring in 1991.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 PM at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Calling hours at the Funeral Home prior to the Funeral Service from 4-7 PM.

Inurnment 11 AM Thursday at the Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the Mechanicville United Methodist Church Building Fund or Saratoga County Animal Shelter.

SUNY Potsdam Student Michael Janucik of Clifton Park, NY Completes Summer Study Abroad Program

The students included Michael Janucik from Clifton Park, NY, who completed student teaching in Australia over the summer.

SUNY Potsdam Awards Scholarships to Area Undergraduate and Graduate Students

POTSDAM, NY (10/21/2014)(readMedia)-- The State University of New York at Potsdam has awarded scholarships, grants and awards to 998 students for the 2014-15 academic year. These accomplished SUNY Potsdam undergraduate and graduate students were recognized for their achievements with support for their educational experience.

This year's recipients included:

  • Molly Bonnier of Melrose, NY, whose major is Dance. Bonnier was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Kirsten Carlo of Valley Falls, NY, whose major is Art Studio. Carlo was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Kayla Fraser of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Fraser was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Taylor Hughes of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Biochemistry (Bachelor of Science). Hughes was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Alexandria Kosek of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Kosek was awarded the Paul E. Hunt '50 Crane School of Music Recruitment Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Robert Krupanich of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Krupanich was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Transfer Scholarship.

  • Madison Mahar of Mechanicville, NY, whose major is Biology (Bachelor of Science). Mahar was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • John Marshall of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Education. Marshall was awarded the Mary Repazy Kuracina Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Amna Siddiqui of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Politics. Siddiqui was awarded the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Marissa Skaczkowski of Mechanicville, NY, whose major is Art Studio. Skaczkowski was awarded the Lucy Dai Scholarship, the Rebecca R. Pratt Arts and Sciences Scholarship and the SUNY Potsdam Freshman Scholarship.
  • Stephen Whimple of Clifton Park, NY, whose major is Music Performance. Whimple was awarded the Frackenpohl Honors Brass Quintet Award.

In December of 2006 my wife Tressy and I received a call from my cousin Anthony asking if I would like to meet with a nice couple named Dave and Megan Quillinan who were interested in opening a deli in the former Sal’s Place. They were looking for business partners and he thought we might be a good fit. It had been a dream of mine to open my own business for a long time and so we decided to meet. We hit it off right away. It was as if it we were meant to be partners. We talked for hours about what we wanted the business to be and we were on the same page. With my strength in the front of house and Dave’s strength of being an awesome executive chef we decided to give it our best shot.

MECHANICVILLE OCTOBER 16- Over one hundred people attended the Annual Economic Summit, sponsored by the Mechanicville - Stillwater Chamber of Commerce was held at the Elks on Thursday evening. Bob Brown, owner of D.C. Sports was honored as the Success Story of the Year.Congressman Paul Tonko, State Senator Kathy Marchione, Stillwater Supervisor Ed Kinowski, and Mechanicville Supervisor Tom Richardson represented government. Mike Russo of Global Foundries, Mike Tucker, CEO of of the Center for Economic Growth, and Todd Shimkus , President of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, represented the private sector.

34 SUNY Oneonta Students Studying Abroad in Fall 2014

ONEONTA, NY (09/30/2014)(readMedia)-- A total of 34 SUNY Oneonta students are studying abroad this fall through semester-long and academic-year programs in 11 countries.

SUNY Oneonta offers exchange programs in Ghana, Ecuador, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan through the Office of International Education, plus a variety of short-term, faculty-led programs. Oneonta students also have access to more than 600 study abroad programs through the SUNY network.

Rebecca Wichelns of Mechanicville is studying at Queen Mary College in the UK on a semester program through SUNY Brockport. Wichelns is a Senior majoring in Communication Studies.

Jamie Wiener of Clifton Park is studying at Kingston University in the UK on an academic-year program through SUNY New Paltz. Wiener is a freshman majoring in Mass Communications.

SUNY Geneseo Announces 2014-15 Presidential Scholars

GENESEO, NY (10/01/2014)(readMedia)-- The State University of New York at Geneseo has named 15 Presidential Scholars for the 2014-15 academic year. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the incoming senior class who exemplifies Geneseo's institutional values and also serves as a student ambassador for the college.

To receive the honor, a student must hold a minimum grade point average of 3.6 and demonstrate an active involvement with the community. They are nominated by faculty members and reviewed by a panel of faculty and students before being recommended to the provost for final approval.
