Union College announces fall student athletes

SCHENECTADY, NY (09/27/2016)-- Meet the Union College students who are participating in fall sports at the College.

Alyssa Bonesteel, of Melrose, NY is a member of the women's volleyball team.

Jeff Taylor, of Clifton Park, NY is a member of the men's ice hockey team.

Valerie Taylor, of Clifton Park, NY is a member of the women's soccer team.

SUNY Canton Celebrates its 2016 Incoming Class

CANTON, NY (10/03/2016)-- Nearly 700 first-time full-time freshmen began their studies at SUNY Canton for the fall 2016 semester.

"Our newest students are now actively engaged in their classes and everyone is commenting on what a wonderful addition they are to our campus," said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. "We are all very glad that they chose SUNY Canton."

The college offers 22 bachelor's degree programs, 21 associate degree programs, and five professional certificate programs. Additionally, nine of the college's bachelor's degrees are fully online.

Among those students who recently began their SUNY Canton education are:

  • Samuel D. Lawrence, a SUNY Canton Law Enforcement Leadership major from Halfmoon, NY, 12065. Lawrence is a 2016 graduate of Shenendehowa Central School.
  • Anthony P. Clements, a SUNY Canton Civil & Environmental Engineering Technology major from Mechanicville, NY, 12118. Clements is a 2016 graduate of Mechanicville High School.

Local residents graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology

Area students earn Presidential Scholarships at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/19/2016)-- SUNY Oswego has awarded Presidential Scholarships to a select group of students who have reserved places at the college for fall 2016.

The scholarships are $18,800 over four years -- $4,700 a year -- for students residing on campus. Off-campus Presidential Scholarships are $2,350 a year. For outstanding non-New York state students, the award can be up to $60,000 over fours years, in combination with a Destination Oswego Scholarship.

Area students earn Deans' Awards at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/19/2016)-- SUNY Oswego has made Deans' Awards to a select group of students from the area who have reserved places at the college starting in fall 2016.

The scholarships are $6,000 over four years. For non-New York state students, the total award can increase to as much as $42,000 in combination with a Destination Oswego scholarship.

Timothy Doss of Stillwater receives merit award at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/19/2016)-- Timothy W. Doss of Stillwater has received a Transfer Achievement Scholarship as a new transfer student at SUNY Oswego.

Doss reserved a place for fall 2016 at Oswego, majoring in graphic design. He last studied at Adirondack Community College and was scheduled to begin classes Aug. 29 at Oswego.

Kyle McFarland of Halfmoon receives Merit Scholarship at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY (08/19/2016)-- SUNY Oswego has awarded a Merit Scholarship to Kyle McFarland of Halfmoon. The award recognizes past academic achievement and potential for success.

McFarland reserved a place in the incoming class for fall 2016, majoring in computer science. He last studied at Shenendehowa High School, and was scheduled to begin classes Aug. 29 at Oswego.

Academic Departments at Hudson Valley Community College Honor Local Students

TROY, NY (07/27/2016)-- Nearly 200 of Hudson Valley Community College's top students were honored with a variety of academic achievement awards this spring. The awards celebrate the depth of student excellence across the college's more than 80 academic programs.

Students are selected for honors by faculty and departmental administrative staff. Local students honored include:

Richard Osborne of Mechanicville, who received the BBL Construction Services Scholarship, which is given to a graduate continuing in the field of civil engineering with an emphasis in construction management and who demonstrates outstanding abilities.

Katherine Greene of Clifton Park, who received the HVCC Dental Hygiene Faculty Memorial Award, which is given to a Dental Hygiene senior who has sustained the highest GPA, and recognizes outstanding academic achievement.

Michael Felthousen of Waterford, who received the Seton Award for Outstanding Patient Care, which is given to a graduating Nursing student who has shown outstanding patient care during his or her studies.

Leah Dugrenier of Melrose, who received the Award for Academic Achievement in Anatomy and Physiology, which is given to a student who has shown academic excellence in the areas of anatomy and physiology.

Martika Martin of Mechanicville, who received the Award for Academic Achievement in Anatomy and Physiology, which is given to a student who has shown academic excellence in the areas of anatomy and physiology.

Laura Labbe of Clifton Park, who received the Academic Excellence in Earth Science, which is given to a student who has shown academic excellence in the study of earth science.

Elise Marson of Clifton Park, who received the The English Department Four L Award: Celebrating Language, Literature, Learning and Laughter, which is presented to a graduating senior in a Liberal Arts or Individual Studies program who has excelled in English.

Leah VonFricken of Mechanicville, who received the Threads Writing Award, which is presented to students whose work is considered among the best published in the 2016 edition of Threads, the English Department's literary magazine.

Erica Shudt of Melrose, who received the The Donna Costello Memorial Award for Excellence in Psychology, which is given to the most outstanding member of the graduating class who is pursuing the study of psychology.

Davra Sanangelo of Clifton Park, who received the Award for Excellence in Human Services, which is given to an outstanding member of the Human Services graduating class.

Christine Thompson of Waterford, who received the Award for Excellence in Chemical Dependency Counseling, which is given to an outstanding member of the Chemical Dependency Counseling graduating class.

Joshua Fontana of Schaghticoke, who received the Clarkson University Transfer Leadership Award, which is given to individuals considering transfer to Clarkson University who will qualify for a partial tuition scholarship should he/she choose to enroll at the university following graduation from Hudson Valley Community College.
