New Playground in Stillwater – by V. Gallagher

STILLWATER - The Village of Stillwater has begun the first phase of renovations on a new playground at Major Dickinson Avenue. The village obtained a $50,000 park and recreations state grant with the help of Senator Kathleen Marchione to give the area a complete overhaul and new look. Former village mayor Ernie Martin, who originally pushed for the grant, is happy to see this all starting to come together.

STILLWATER JULY 21 –Residents, friends and neighbors stopped by the Stillwater Village Board Room to honor their former mayor Ernest  Martin.   “I’m honored and I’m humbled…I’m proud of my accomplishments,” said Martin. Rick Nelson was elected  the new village mayor this past March. He and former Stillwater mayor David Rathbun were present to pay tribute to Martin, along with Senator Kathy Marchione, who  presented the former mayor with an official service award from the New York State Senate.

“Opting Out” a Growing Trend – by V. Gallagher

There was a time when it was unheard of for students to refuse to take a school exam, but these days not only is it a possibility, the numbers are actually growing. Stillwater Elementary School principal John Powell says student percentage went up significantly for the district just from this past year.
