Rensselaer County Selects New Dairy Princess – by C. Barton

Rensselaer County- On April 30th 2016 the 53rd annual Rensselaer County Dairy Princess Banquet and Pageant took place at the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps.  The panel of judges who select the Dairy Princess candidate look for a young woman who best epitomizes the wholesome quality of milk, and will act as a responsible and dedicated spokesperson for the New York State Dairy Industry.

Pipeline Project Suspended in Rensselaer County – by C. Barton

On April 20th Kinder Morgan released a statement announcing that, “ Kinder Morgan Inc. and its subsidiary, Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company (TGP) have suspended further work and expenditures on the Northeast Energy Direct (NED) project. “ In part, the statement reads that, “this decision was “as a result of inadequate capacity commitments from prospective customers.” The statement included several other factors that led to the suspension of the project.

County Route 111 Bridge – by C. Barton

The CR-111 bridge in Johnsonville has been closed since September of 2013. It was closed immediately following an inspection by NYSDOT who issued a red flag PIA for the CR-111 bridge due to noted deterioration of the structure members. The highway department was unable to make necessary repairs in 24 hours so an immediate closure was necessary for safety

Rens Co. Taking Water Samples in Petersburgh

RENSSELAER COUNTY - As of March 7, 2016 the Rensselaer County Department of Health has collected water samples from 60 samples including 44 private wells in the Town of Petersburgh. Results are expected in the next week or so and will be passed on directly to the individual home owners. Further testing is currently taking place. The geographic range of the testing will continue to expand until PFOA readings fall to an acceptable level.

Pipeline Controversy in Rensselaer County – by C. Barton

Rensselaer County- Rensselaer County is currently faced with the potential for a natural gas pipeline proposal that will run through several towns in the county.  In late 2014, fracking, a widely used gas extracting technique, became illegal in New York State after legislation was put in place to prohibit this practice, however this law does not address the transporting of natural gas
