Tomhannock Reservoir Clean Up – by C. Barton

Tomhannock Reservoir- On Saturday April 16th from 9am to noon the Rensselaer Land Trust (RLT) in partnership with the Hoosic River Watershed Association (HooRWA) will be holding the annual Tomhannock Reservoir Shoreline Cleanup Day. The mission of the RLT is to “conserve the open spaces, watersheds and natural habitats of Rensselaer County for the benefit of our communities and future generations.”  Both organizations partner annually with the local community to dedicate a day each year to clean up the shoreline of one of the areas major water sources.

Cleanup for White Water Derby

Members of the Tenandeho Canoe Association staged their first creek cleanup last Saturday in preparation for the April 3 whitewater derby. Committee members were able to remove debris for the first half of the course. They were aided by low water conditions that exposed obstacles from previous races. Plans are now underway to complete the cleanup next Saturday. Anyone wishing to help with the cleanup can meet with the race committee at the McDonald's parking lot in Mechanicville at 9:00am, this Saturday, March 19.
