Solar Sal Arrives in Mechanicville – by T. Mahoney

MECHANICVILLE OCTOBER 13- On Tuesday afternoon the Mechanicville dock was used for a new purpose- to unload freight. Solar Sal the 40' solar powered boat designed by Dave Borton left Lockport, NY, 10 days before with 3 tons of cardboard he picked up from Cascade Paper. Solar Sal traveled the 300 miles on the Eire Canal in very cloudy and rainy weather.

ANNUAL CARDBOARD BOAT RACES

Saturday, August 8th, 8am - 3pm (rain date August 9th) Fort Hardy Beach, Route 29, Schuylerville. New this year, Firefighters Challenge Race. Hudson Crossing Park presents a family fun day that’s free for spectators. Races 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Best photos opportunities 12 - 2pm.

On-site registration and construction for competitors is open from 8 – 11:30am. More information, rules, online pre-registration discounts, and cardboard boat building links are available at www.hudsoncrossingpark.org.

Round Lake Boat Launch Opens – by L. Peterson

 

This weekend lake-happy residents were out in droves just east of Round Lake to enjoy the brand-new boat launch for the sunny weather. In construction since last year, this is the first proper boat launch since the original boat house was torn down two decades ago, and a victory for many people who have long argued that a properly maintained site to launch motorboats on the lake will help prevent traffic accidents from boat owners parking on the shoulder of busy Route 9.
