Hoosic Valley Appoints New Superintendent – by Christine Barton

Hoosic Valley-On December 16th the Board of Education of the Hoosic Valley Central School District approved a resolution that appointed Amy Goodell as Superintendent of Schools. Goodell has been serving as the Interim Superintendent since the spring of 2013. She began her formal appointment to this position on January 1st of 2014 for the period through December 31, 2018.

Melrose FD Recognized for Hurricane Sandy Help – by Christine Barton

Melrose-On December 6th 2013 five members of the Freeport NY Fire Department, Patriot Hose Company No. 4, made the drive to the Melrose Fire Company to formally recognize the department for the assistance they provided during Hurricane Sandy back in October of 2012. The devastation brought about by the storm resulted in widespread damage to the eastern seaboard with extensive damage to many areas of New York and New Jersey. According to Robert Terry, former chief of the Freeport Patriot Hose Co. No.4, about two thirds of company sustained damage to their own homes as a result of the storm, making the ability to respond to emergency calls in the area that much more difficult.

Cruise In Support HV Christmas Transportation Fund – Christine Barton

Schaghticoke-Every year the Hoosic Valley Transportation Department and the Tobacco Road Street Rod Club partner together to raise money for the “Christmas for Kids Fund.” The Hoosic Valley bus drivers set the fund up many years ago when they recognized that many families in the school district could use a helping hand during the holiday season. The goal is to raise money to purchase holiday gifts for kids K-12 in the district that may be in need during the holidays.
