Troy Church Raffles AR-15 Rifle- by Christine Barton

Troy- A 10am service on Sunday March 23rd drew a large crowd to the Grace Baptist Church on Fourth Avenue in Troy. A flyer sent out titled  “Win a Free AR-15” has caused controversy and national attention over the past few weeks.

Those attending the service were welcome to register to win a NY-legally modified AR-15 at a drawing-taking place at the Sunday service. Pastor Koletas informed the crowd that “instead of giving away one modified rifle, we will be giving away two.” This comment by Koletas received an “Amen” from the crowd.  “I feel just as strongly about taking care of people as I do about the Second Amendment says Koletas.

Transfiguration Parish Prepares Meal – Christine Barton

Winter vacation week is traditionally a time for rest and relaxation, but for many local students and Transfiguration parishioners it was a time for giving. A group of volunteers from both sites at Transfiguration Parish spent time during the school break preparing and serving a meal for Bethany House in Troy. The Bethany Hospitality Center merged with Unity House in 2012 and is now known as Bethany @ Unity. The resource center serves a diverse population of people affected by financial struggles. Additionally, they offer community meals and a variety of other human service resources for area residents.
