Mechanicville Sports Teams Earn Scholar Athlete Honors – by S. McBride

   Before the new school year starts at the end of each summer, high school kids hit the fields and courts to get ready for fall sports.  Any high school athlete will tell you that getting whipped back into shape after summer vacation takes a lot of hard work.  But then the first day of school arrives, and they also have to get back into study mode which is also a lot of work.

   When high school students can put together a fall sports season and a first marking period and show remarkable success in both, it’s a tribute to their work ethic, their time management and their desire to succeed.  It’s also a tribute to the coaches and teachers who demand the best from them.

Michael Bove TWC Student Athlete of the Week – by S. McBride

   Michael Bove, a senior at Mechanicville High School, will be honored this week by Time Warner Cable News as their Scholar/Athlete of the Week.  This designation is awarded to outstanding students throughout the Capital District who excel in school, sports and community service on a weekly basis throughout the school year.  The segment will air on TWC on February 1.

Kim Thompson Chosen YNN Scholar Athlete of the Week – by Sandy McBride

Kimberly Thompson, a senior at Mechanicville High School, has been honored by Time Warner Cable’s YNN Sports as their Student/Athlete of the Week for the third week of December. In a new program instituted by the statewide news organization, each week a student who is outstanding in the classroom, in athletics and in the community will be featured.

Mechanicville’s Athletic Director Robert Young says that when he first learned of the new award program, he immediately thought of Kim Thompson and began the process of nominating her for the honor.

“She meets all the criteria,” he says.
