Mechanicville Library Celebrates 50 Years – by Sandy McBride

The Mechanicville District Public Library celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday with a gathering in the Angelo and Jake De Crescente Reading Room at the library.  Trustee Tom Golden introduced Congressman Paul Tonko of the 20th Congressional District who presented a Proclamation from the House of Representatives congratulating the library on reaching this milestone.

Johnsonville Ambulance Celebrates 50 Years – by C. Barton

 

Johnsonville- The Johnsonville Volunteer Ambulance Service (JVAS) held a celebration on Sunday August 10th at the River Road squad house to celebrate 50 years of service to the community. The ambulance service was started in September 1963 by a group of area residents for the purpose of providing emergency medical services to the community. The first formal business meeting was held on September 9th 1963. Prior to the JVAS being formally established, the community was served by neighboring Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad. Many of the members of the newly formed JVAS had been affiliated with Hoosic Valley and the first ambulance owned by the JVAS came from the Hoosic Valley Rescue Squad (HVRS).
