Mechanicville Vets Memorial to Get New Home – by Sandy McBride

On Veterans’ Day in 1963, city and county officials, national veterans’ leaders, members of the Lt. Fred H. Clark Post #91 of the American Legion, Elmer E. Ellsworth Post # 6328 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Peters Purcell Post # 21 of the Italian American War Veterans, along with many local residents, including many veterans of World War II and the Korean War, gathered on the narrow lawn at the north side of the High School on Main Street.  They were there to dedicate a newly-erected granite monument honoring the men and women of our community who have stepped up to protect and defend our nation over the past two centuries.
