Local Students Elected to Phi Beta Kappa at SUNY Geneseo

GENESEO, NY (04/07/2015)(readMedia)-- Faculty members at the State University of New York at Geneseo have elected a new group of students to the college's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest and most widely known academic honor society. Students from the junior and senior classes are selected each spring for membership into the organization. New inductees from this area are:

Robert Krupanich Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

BATON ROUGE, LA (04/08/2015)(readMedia)-- The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased to announce that Robert Krupanich of Clifton Park, N.Y., was recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Krupanich was initiated at State University of New York at Potsdam.

131 Students Receive 2014-2015 Susan Sutton Smith Award

ONEONTA, NY (04/10/2015)(readMedia)-- A total of 131 students received the SUNY Oneonta 2014-2015 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence. To be eligible for the award, a student must be a freshman, sophomore or junior with a grade-point average of 3.9 or higher.

Student award winners receive a certificate, a gift card to the campus bookstore, and an invitation to attend the annual Susan Sutton Smith Lecture and reception. Dr. Joseph Pignato, associate professor of music at SUNY Oneonta, will deliver this year's lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in the Craven Lounge of the college's Morris Conference Center. Pignato is the 21st recipient of the Susan Sutton Smith Faculty Prize for Academic Excellence, created to recognize faculty achievement outside the classroom and named in memory of the late SUNY Oneonta professor of English.

The following area students received the 2014-2015 Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence:

Nathan Laing of Waterford (12188), whose major is Geography;

Emily Snyder of Clifton Park (12065), whose major is English;

Connor Chapman of Clifton Park (12065), whose major is Meteorology;

Connor Killane of Clifton Park (12065), whose major is Business Economics;

Margaret Sanderson Inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma

ONEONTA, NY (04/09/2015)(readMedia)-- Margaret Sanderson of Schaghticoke, NY, was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, on April 9. Sanderson, who is majoring in Early/Elementary Education, is a member of the Cross Country & Track & Field team at SUNY Oneonta.
